New Delhi, July 3 (Inditop.com) Three consignments of bulk drugs from unregistered manufacturers in China have been detected in Chennai sea port recently, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said Friday.

The officers of Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) have taken up the issue with Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Customs and all port officials to curb such import in India, Azad informed the Rajya Sabha.

He said a committee has been formed to look into the problems of spurious drugs in the country. Also, several steps like increasing penalty and punishment to prevent manufacture and sale of fake drugs have been taken.

Under the capacity building project through World Bank, 23 states and six central drugs laboratories have been strengthened through renovations, extensions and equipments.
