Hyderabad, May 8 (Inditop) A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) was Friday admitted to a government-run hospital here with suspected symptoms of swine flu, soon after she landed here from the United States.
The woman was shifted to Andhra Pradesh Chest Hospital straight from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here, after she was found with visible symptoms of the dreaded flu during the screening of international passengers.
It was immediately not clear as to which US state or city she came from. She was quarantined at the hospital, the nodal centre to deal with swine flu cases.
Doctors said her throat swab and blood samples were collected and sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), Delhi, for testing.
This is the eighth suspected case of swine flu among international passengers arriving here over the last eight days. However, this is the first time that a woman has been admitted with suspected symptoms.
The new case was referred to the hospital a day after the tests conducted on three persons proved negative for the virus. All the earlier suspected cases were also cleared by the authorities.
Three suspected cases of swine flu were admitted to the hospital May 6.
While two passengers arriving from New York and Dubai were brought to the hospital, the third from London came to the hospital on his own.
A medical team deployed at the airport here is screening about 2,000 passengers every day.
