New Delhi, Jan 19 (Inditop.com) More than 10 million smart cards have been issued under the health insurance scheme for the poor, Minister for Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge said Tuesday.
“This is perhaps the largest effort ever to use Information Technology tools in rural areas,” Kharge told reporters at the annual Editors’ Conference on Social Sector Issues, noting that more than one crore smart cards had been distributed since the scheme started April 2008.
Under the scheme, the card is given to a family of five persons providing cover for hospitalisation up to Rs.30,000.
