Xining (China), Aug 3 (Xinhua) A 37-year-old man died of pneumonic plague in northwest China’s Qinghai province, raising the death toll from the infectious disease to two, authorities said late Sunday.

Danzin, a resident of Ziketan town in Xinghai county of Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture died Sunday morning.

He is a neighbour of the 32-year-old herdsman who was the first person to die due to the disease outbreak that was first reported July 30. Ten other people are also sick in Ziketan.

Danzin was admitted to a hospital at 11 p.m. July 31 after having symptoms of fever and cough.

The other 10 patients who are still quarantined have not shown any symptoms of fever and cough. Most of them are relatives of the dead herdsman.

Health authorities continued to disinfect the region and track those who had close contact with the patients.

Ziketan town has a population of 10,000.
