Shimla, Jan 29 (Inditop.com) Seven blood samples of jaundice patients in the Himachal Pradesh state capital have tested positive for Hepatitis E – the first incidence of the virus spread liver disease in the state, a health official said Friday.
“Seven out of eight samples, sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in New Delhi, tested positive for Hepatitis E Friday. The patients belonged to various areas in and around Shimla,” Chief Medical Officer (CMO) K.K Rattan said.
He said so far 68 patients suffering from the water-borne disease have been reported, mainly from Khalini, Pathagahati, Vikas Nagar and Kasumpti areas.
“It was for the first time that jaundice has been spread in the state through Hepatitis E. Earlier, it was mainly Hepatitis A,” he added.
An official of the Shimla Municipal Corporation said the source of water contamination was located and the problem has been rectified now.
