Auckland, May 14 (Inditop.com) A Canadian tourist who dozed off naked on a New Zealand beach after a swim suffered inflammation of the heart after being bitten on his penis by a spider.

The 22-year-old was apparently attacked by a katipo spider in Northland. He had left his clothes on the sand dunes before going for the naked swim, said online NZ Medical Journal.

“He woke to find his penis swollen and painful with a red mark on the shaft suggestive of a bite. He rapidly developed generalised muscle pains, fever, headache, photophobia (light sensitivity) and vomiting.”

New Zealand Herald quoted Nigel Harrison of Whangarei Hospital as saying: “It was a rather nasty, ill-placed bite.”

By the time the man reached hospital, his penis was severely swollen, his blood pressure was up and his heart beat was racing.

The next morning he complained of chest pain. He was treated at Whangarei Hospital and Auckland Hospital before leaving for Canada.
