Agra, Dec 2 (IANS) After many cases of injuries to tourists in the recent past, the Agra district administration has finally deployed a fully-equipped ambulance at the Taj Mahal.
The Agra Development Authority handed over the air-conditioned ambulance to the health department Wednesday evening. Costing about Rs.15 lakh, the ambulance will be stationed at the eastern gate of the Taj.
Around 10,000-15,000 tourists visit the Taj Mahal every day, and there have been many instances of tourists sustaining injuries.
The most recent case was Nov 25, when a tourist from Mumbai collapsed and died due to the absence of any medical help.
However, many tourism industry experts were doubtful of the move’s success. They said the health department already had several ambulances at its disposal which were lying unused and an NGO could have been entrusted with the responsibility of providing medical care to tourists.
