Dubai, May 18 (Inditop.com/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has banned the production and circulation of milk that contains a fat-removing substance called conjugated linoleic acid.

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) inhibits the functioning of lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that helps in removal of fat from blood. Once the fat is removed and broken down, it is stored in other parts of the body.

By suppressing this enzyme, CLA helps reduce the amount of fat that is broken down and, therefore, the amount of fat that is deposited and stored.

The ministry of environment and water has issued an order banning the entry and circulation of fat-free milk of a particular brand, after examination of its food card data.

The ministry has alleged that the manufacturer is marketing its product in the UAE market without obtaining a licence from the authorities. It has also asked authorities to recall the product from the market until the ban is removed.
