London, Jan 31 (Inditop.com) Indian-born English singer Sir Cliff Richard has been ordered to pull down a 30,000-pound conservatory at his Surrey mansion after losing a battle with planning officials.
Friendfeed.com reports the singer failed to seek planning permission for the 17-foot extension in 2006 and the Runnymede Council last year told him he had breached the rules.
Now they have dismissed his appeal against their decision. He has to remove the structure by March 9.
Dave Farrell, Sir Cliff’s planning consultant, called the demolition order “a bit silly”. “We’re disappointed but it’s just one of those things,” he added.
Added planning committee chairman councillor Geoff Woodger: “The decision confirms our view that the conservatory breached policy.”
Sir Cliff knocked down a bungalow on his Wentworth estate in Virginia Water to build a large mansion and planning rules allowed his new home 30 percent more area than the original house.
The conservatory was built in 2006, but the total area now exceeded nearly 40 percent greater than the original home. It was picked up by officials when Sir Cliff put the house up for sale last year for 1.35 million pounds.
Though he applied retrospectively for planning permission, he was turned down after a debate.
