Director JON FAVREAU is in talks to reteam with IRON MAN star ROBERT DOWNEY JR. for a new comic book adaptation of COWBOYS AND ALIENS.

Downey Jr. has been linked to the project for over a year, but production has been delayed because studio bosses have yet to appoint a filmmaker to helm the movie.

According to Daily Variety, Favreau is now favourite to take on the task – making it his third collaboration with the Hollywood actor. The pair recently wrapped production on Iron Man 2.

Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer will serve as producers on the film, about an enemy spaceship which crashes in the middle of Arizona.
