Rapper JA RULE caused chaos on the roads of Sydney, Australia last week when he sped through the city on the wrong side of the road.
The Always On Time hitmaker, real name Jeffrey Atkins, was Down Under ahead of a concert on Saturday (29Aug09) when he got behind the wheel of his car on Thursday (27Aug09) for a ride with three radio presenters.
But the hip-hop star didn’t realise motorists drive on the left hand side of the road in Australia, and raced along the right lane, as he would in his native America.
It was only when the DJs alerted Ja Rule to his traffic violation that he realised his mistake – but only after other drivers were forced to swerve to avoid an accident.
No one was injured in the incident and the rapper’s representative insists it was a simple mistake.
The spokesperson says, “I think he was more interested in looking at the view of Sydney than he was keeping his eyes on the road. He powered out into Pyrmont with (the radio hosts)… in the car and onto the wrong side of the road.
“He obviously thought he was still in America. Luckily there was no damage.”
Ja Rule’s Australian trip has been marred by controversy – he almost had to scrap the weekend show after previously failing to secure a work visa to enter the country due to his criminal record.
The rapper faced charges for weapons violations in 2007, while he pleaded guilty to punching a fan in Toronto, Canada in 2005
