Rapper JAY-Z’s intimate set in New York was disrupted on Wednesday night (09Sep09) when some sneaky fans’ marijuana smoke set off the fire alarms.
The hip-hop superstar was three quarters of the way through his free concert at Manhattan’s Blender Theatre when sirens went off and the music cut out.
The crowd booed as Jay-Z walked offstage to investigate the disturbance and security guards were sent into the audience to search for the pot culprits, although they emerged empty-handed.
After a brief interval, the 99 Problems hitmaker was given the green light to resume his 75-minute set, which included tracks such as Big Pimpin’, D.O.A., Encore and his new hit single Run This Town.
The concert served as a warm up to Jay-Z’s 9/11 benefit gig at the Big Apple’s Madison Square Garden on Friday (11Sep09), before he heads out on a U.S. tour in support of his new album The Blueprint 3.
