Lucknow, Aug 31 (IANS) At least 11 labourers engaged on a state government-sponsored construction project were electrocuted in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur district Tuesday, an official said.

According to police, the accident took place Tuesday afternoon in the Singhai town, where labourers were working on a housing project.

‘Preliminary reports reveal that the 11 labourers came in contact with a high-tension wire while carrying out construction,’ District Magistrate Sameer Verma told IANS over telephone from Lakhimpur, some 150 km from Lucknow.

‘At least two people have also been injured in the incident,’ he added.
