Lucknow, June 1 (IANS) At least 15 people were killed and 11 injured when a bus ran over a marriage procession in an Uttar Pradesh village, police said Tuesday.
The accident took place late Monday when the driver lost control of the state-owned bus in Gomadeh village of Azamgarh district, about 300 km from Lucknow.
‘The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Azamgarh and Varanasi districts. Of the 11 injured, three are critical,’ district police chief B.S. Srivastava told reporters.
The accident sparked protests by locals who called off their agitation Tuesday morning after the driver was arrested.
‘Though the driver escaped from the site following the accident, a team of officials managed to nab him this (Tuesday) morning,’ said Srivastava.
