Ranchi, Aug 22 (Inditop.com) Six people have died in the last three days after being bitten by a hyena in a village on the outskirts of this Jharkhand capital, an official said here Saturday.

A hyena had sneaked into Lali village July 27 and bit 21 people. Six of the victims were dead by Friday, the official said. The hyena was killed by the villagers July 28.

The official said the victims died as they did not take anti-rabies injections.

A separate ward was created in Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) here Saturday for treating people bitten by the hyena. Governor K. Shankarnarayan has directed the health department to send a mobile unit to the village.

The villagers wrote to Shankarnarayan asking for support to those injured. He has announced compensation of Rs.100,000 each to the family of those dead and Rs.30,000 each to the injured.

Meghnath Lohra, a resident of Lali village who was bitten by hyena, said: “I am suffering from headache and high fever. I am scared. People who were bitten by the hyena are dying. I do not want to die.”
