New Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS) As many as 764 Pakistani nationals were granted Indian citizenship during 2009-11, Minister of State of Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told the Rajya Sabha Wednesday.
Ramachandran said that 1,290 applications of Pakistani nationals were received from various state governments/union territories for grant of Indian citizenship by registration and naturalization during last three years (2009-2011).
“Indian citizenship was granted to 764 Pakistan nationals during this period,” he said.
The minister said that the grant of Indian citizenship is a multi-level and multi-agency activity.
“Since initial application is submitted to the collector concerned and a number of agencies are involved in the processing of applications for grant of citizenship, no case/religion based centralized data of such applications is maintained,” Ramachandran said.
“All cases received in the home ministry are processed as expeditiously as possible,” he added.
