Chandigarh, Dec 31 (IANS) It was a bone-chilling New Year’s eve in Punjab’s Amritsar city Saturday with the minimum temperature dropping to minus 0.2 degree Celsius.

Even though the minimum temperature was better than the season’s lowest of minus 2.1 degrees recorded Friday, it was three degrees below normal.

Most other parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh were warmer with the minimum and maximum temperatures showing an increase.

Chandigarh recorded a minimum of 6.2 degrees, one degree more than Friday, while the maximum temperature Thursday was 22.2 degrees, two degrees above normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a high and low of 24.6 and 3.6 and 20.7 and 5.4 degrees, respectively.

Haryana’s Hisar town, which had also recorded sub-zero temperature earlier, was warmer Saturday morning with a low of 2.7 degrees — still three degrees below normal. The maximum temperature was 21 degrees.

Met centre officials said sunny weather could be experienced at most places across the two states. Fog and mist could occur at a few places in the next two days, officials added.

They said there was a possibility of rain and thundershowers at some places in Punjab and Haryana. The night temperatures could rise slightly, they added.
