New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) It was yet another chilly day in Delhi Monday with the minimum temperature settling five notches below average at 2.4 degrees Celsius. Flights and trains were affected due to dense fog in the morning.
Over 40 trains were delayed and 18 train services were cancelled due to fog, the Indian Railway said in a statement.
A Delhi International Airport Limited statement said 15 flights were delayed. “The low visibility procedure was initiated early Monday morning on the runway as visibility fell below 50 metres,” said a spokesperson of the Delhi International Airport.
The maximum temperature was recorded seven notches below average at 13.4 degrees.
With no let up in the bitter cold over the past few days, the plight of over three lakh homeless people who spend nights in dilapidated home shelters or under flyovers has worsened.
Others more fortunate are not much better off in the face of the chilly weather. “When will this chilly weather end? It is very difficult to go to office at 8 a.m.,” said Shikha Dimri, who lives in east Delhi.
The Met department has forecast no respite from cold and similar conditions Tuesday.
“The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 13 and three degrees, respectively, Tuesday,” said a Met official.
