New Delhi, July 19 (IANS) A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation demanding the dismissal of a Delhi minister for trying to protect a leading resort in a tax evasion case Monday met Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna, who assured them he would look into the allegations.

According to the BJP, Revenue Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan tried to influence officials of the tax department by asking them not to pursue an alleged evasion case against south Delhi-based Tivoli Garden Resort.

‘Khanna assured that he will order an inquiry into the tax evasion and necessary action will be taken against the person found guilty,’ BJP Delhi unit chief Vijendra Gupta, who led the delegation, told reporters.

Last month, in a confidential report to top officials, Delhi’s Trade and Tax Commissioner Jalaj Shrivastava had said a minister asked him to ‘intervene’ in the alleged tax evasion case.

Tax officials had conducted surveys at several resorts and banquet halls in Delhi early this year following reports that they are indulging in large-scale tax evasion by under-reporting their annual turnover.
