New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, led by party president Nitin Gadkari, Thursday met President Pratibha Patil to seek a CBI or special investigation team (SIT) probe into illegal mining in Goa.
The team, which also included BJP leaders from Goa, submitted a memorandum to the president alleging the Congress government in the state was responsible for the multi-crore mining scam and destroying the region’s flora and fauna.
‘We requested the president to call upon the union government and direct them to hand over the investigation of this scam to a special investigation team or the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation),’ Gadkari told reporters after the meeting.
In its memorandum, the BJP alleged that several ministers in Goa, including Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, are involved in the Rs.25,000 crore mining scam.
