New Delhi, Feb 2 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday demanded “immediate action” against two Delhi shopkeepers who allegedly severely thrashed a 19-year-old youth from Arunachal Pradesh leading to his death here.

Staging a protest outside Rajghat, Vijay Goel, president of the Delhi BJP, said the party was in solidarity with people from the northeast.
“Such incidents are unfortunate. Students from north-eastern states have been harassed in the past also. This must stop,” Goel said.
Candle light vigils were held in different parts of the city to protest Nido Tania’s death.
Inamul Hasan, secretary, Khudai Khidmatgar, criticised the incident terming it against humanity, as they held a march outside Rajghat.
“As Northeastern states are integral part of India, the people in North India and other parts of the country need to understand they are our own brothers and sisters and share the same rights as we do,” Hasan told IANS.
Similar demonstrations were also held at Jantar Mantar here.
“We won’t let Nido Tania’s life go in vain. Justice must be delivered and the Delhi government must ensure that no such incident happens against any person from our region,” Talin Riba, a Delhi University student told IANS.
Nido Tania was beaten up by two shopkeepers Wednesday in south Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar market following a quarrel over his appearance and clothing. He died in a hospital Thursday.
