Jammu, Jan 3 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Governor N. N. Vohra Friday stressed the habit of book reading must be revived among the youth
He was speaking after gifting 224 selected books to the civil services institute in Reasi district of Jammu region.
Vohra gave the set of 224 selected books on modern and classic literature in Hindi and English languages, autobiographies, fiction, religion, folktales, history and sports to Reasi’s District Magistrate Shahid Iqbal Choudhary at the state Raj Bhavan here.
Vohra said a set of books in Urdu would also be gifted shortly.
Emphasizing the importance of reviving the book reading habit among the youth who are attached more to Internet and television, the governor observed that book discussion programmes at least once a month or oftener would be a very useful intellectual activity.
Choudhary said the governor’s gesture would provide the officers an opportunity to meet in an informal environment where they could discuss important issues relating to the rapid advancement of various important health and education programmes and evolve cohesive approaches for the rapid progress of the district.
