Kolkata, Sep 14 (IANS) A minor Bangladeshi girl, who along with her mother and brother had illegally migrated to India and spent few years at a shelter home in West Bengal following their arrest, was Saturday repatriated by the Border Security Force (BSF).
A BSF team led by Additional Director General B.D. Sharma handed over Afroza Khatun to Border Guard Bangladesh Director General Gen. Aziz Ahmed, the BSF said in a release.
Afroza, then 5 years old, was taken into custody along with her mother Manowara Begum and brother Munna from South Dinajpur district in January 2009.
Manowara, who was subsequently convicted and awarded two years imprisonment, later died that year of illness leaving behind both the children.
While Munna was sent to a shelter home in Balurghat in the district, Afroza was lodged in a home in Nadia district for rehabilitation.
Munna was repatriated in 2011.
