Srinagar, Dec 1 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Police Thursday announced the busting of multiple gangs of vehicle lifters and burglars here and said they had recovered over 100 stolen cars and motorcycles.
‘We have recovered 53 stolen vehicles and 63 motorcycles worth Rs.2,66,00,000,’ Senior Superintendent of Police (Srinagar) Ashiq Hussain Bukhari told media persons here.
‘In addition to these, mobile phones, grocery items and gold worth Rs.3,00,000 were also recovered. The gangs were active in Srinagar city for the last few months,’ he added.
At least six people have been arrested — they include a 12-year-old boy whom the police described as an expert carjacker.
The district police chief, however, confirmed that some members of these gangs were absconding.
