New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS) The third edition of Jamia Bazaar, a two-day exposition commencing Oct 26, will unveil craftswork like furnishing, fashion accessories, clothes and festive gift items by the Muslim community of the area here.
Organised by the NGO, Centre for Equity and Inclusion (CEQUIN), an initiative of social activist Sara Pilot and Lora Prabhu, the exposition at the India Islamic Culture Centre here showcases the world of Jamia Nagar in front of the capital’s fashion lovers, besides offering an empowering stage to women entrepreneurs to flaunt their skills.
“The bazaar opens a whole new world for these women living at the fringes of society, bringing to light their vastly neglected, but laudable talent and enterprise, thereby making a tremendous effort in uplifting the spirit of these women and the ghettoised communities of Jamia Nagar on the whole,” Pilot, chairperson of CEQUIN, said in a statement.
One can purchase the locally-made craftworks that varies from home furnishing, fashion accessories, clothes and festive gift items apart from mouth-watering cuisine from the “undiscovered” streets of Jamia for the foodies.
There will also be a gourmet trail featuring hot biryani, melt-in-the-mouth kebabs, achari chicken, and Kashmiri wazwan etc.
To add to the fun will be beauticians trained at CEQUIN’s Jamia centre offering guests services like mehendi, nail art and foot massage on the spot.
