Chandigarh, April 7 (Inditop.com) A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court Wednesday awarded two years’ rigorous imprisonment to a Chandigarh policeman for accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000 from a drug peddler presently lodged in a jail here.
However, the court granted him bail soon after announcing the sentence.
CBI special Judge Darshan Singh also slapped a fine of Rs.12,000 on sub-inspector Ved Parkash who took the bribe from Harpal Singh alias Raju in 2007 after threatening to slap false cases on him.
The sub-inspector was granted bail after furnishing a bond of Rs.50,000.
Raju, a former student of Panjab University, is currently in jail as he was caught with 3.5 kg heroin and one kg smack by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) a few years back.
According to CBI officials, Raju filed a complaint against Ved Parkash, who was the then in-charge of Sector 61 police post, in June 2007. Following this, the CBI laid a trap and arrested Parkash while accepting the bribe.
