Raipur, Dec 24 (IANS) A police officer posted in one of Chhattisgarh’s worst insurgency-hit districts – Narayanpur in Bastar region, shot himself Monday evening and was in a critical condition, police said.

Shobharam Devangan, an assistant platoon commander with Chhattisgarh Armed Forces’ (CAF) 8th Battalion, shot himself with his service revolver at Narayanpur town, headquarters of the district.
Police sources say that he was taken to a district hospital with a chest bullet injury and was later referred to Raipur for advanced medical treatment.
The sources say that the police officer was highly disturbed for past several days and he attempted suicide at around 7 p.m. His condition was stated to be highly critical.
