Srinagar, Feb 20 (IANS) Residents of Pulwama town in Jammu and Kashmir Thursday clashed with security forces following the killing of a man alleged to be a Hizbul Mujahideen guerrilla.

The man, identified as Tawseef Hassan Dar, a resident of Prichoo village in Pulwama, was killed by security forces in Budgam district Wednesday.
Though security forces said he was a guerrilla of the Hizbul Mujahideen group, some residents said he was not a militant. The body was identified by the man’s brother and was buried Wednesday night.
Authorities Thursday imposed restrictions in Pulwama town to maintain law and order.
However, many people defied the restrictions and launched protests.
Police used batons and tear gas shells to disperse the protestors.
Police said a protestor – identified as Maisar Ahmad Bhat – was injured when he tried to hurl back a tear gas shell at police.
The shell exploded in Bhat’s hands, injuring his fingers. He was admitted to a hospital in Srinagar.
Police said the situation in Pulwama town was now peaceful.
