New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS) Coming home to change his clothes for a relative’s wedding, a Class 2 student was seriously injured after he was hit by a speeding car and later died in hospital, police said Sunday. The driver has been arrested.

The accident took place at around 9 p.m. Saturday near Ghazipur police post.

Neeraj Joshi, 8, along with his mother, was coming home at Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to change his clothes for the function when the accident took place.

He was crossing the road when he was hit by the speeding Santro car. The boy sustained critical injuries and was taken to Metro Hospital in Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

‘Late in the night, he succumbed to his injuries,’ a police officer said.

A case of rash and negligent driving causing death was registered against the errant car driver, identified as Vinod. He has been arrested and his car was impounded, the officer added.

Joshi’s father Rajender Joshi is a driver in a private company, police said.
