New Delhi, Dec 29 (IANS) It was a cold day with chilly winds for Delhiites Thursday, with thick fog in the morning making way for pleasant sunshine later in the day, the weatherman said. The fog hit rail and air traffic, with 32 trains cancelled and five flights delayed. The weather office forecast similar conditions Friday.
On Thursday, the visibility at 8.30 a.m. was 200 metres, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the Northern Railways website, till 11 a.m. 32 trains were cancelled due to fog while 15 were running late by over an hour.
A statement issued by the Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) said: ‘The weather in Delhi delayed five flights but there were no cancellations due to fog.’
‘Five flights were delayed due to bad weather at the IGI Airport and 123 due to operational and technical reasons of the airlines,’ it said.
Eight flights were cancelled due to operational and technical reasons related to the airlines.
The minimum temperature Thursday was recorded at 6.8 degrees Celsius, a notch below average, while the maximum touched 22.3 degrees — two notches above average for this time of the season.
Humidity wavered between a high of 97 and low of 47 percent.
According to the IMD, Friday morning will be foggy, though the sky during day is expected to be clear.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 23 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
