Kolkata, Dec 31 (IANS) Accusing the Congress of ‘ditching’ the nation by not going for a vote on the Lokpal bill in the Rajya Sabha, the Left parties have slammed the party for not being honest regarding the passage of the anti-graft legislation.
‘They have ditched the country. They were not at all honest about the Lokpal bill,’ Communist Party of India state secretary Manju Kumar Majumdar said Friday.
The Rajya Sabha failed to pass the anti-graft bill Thursday and the house was adjourned sine dine amid chaos.
‘They have betrayed the common people of India. They were well aware that they cannot pass the bill as they were short of numbers, they did the drama of debate,’ said Communist Party of India-Marxist central committee member Shyamal Chakroborty.
The Forward Bloc questioned the need to take up the bill when it was not supported by Congress ally Trinamool Congress. ‘I don’t understand if the allies were not in confidence about the bill what was the use of bringing the bill,’ Forward Bloc leader Naren Chatterjee said.
