New Delhi, March 28 (IANS) Calling it a ‘sensitive’ matter, the Congress Wednesday questioned the circumstances that led to the leak of army chief Gen V.K. Singh’s letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about shortages of weapons and ammunition.

‘Why was this letter written and how was it leaked and reached the media… there are a lot of questions that need to be answered as it relates to the country’s security,’ Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi told reporters.

The army chief March 12 wrote to the prime minister stating India’s security might be at risk as tanks were running out of ammunition, air defence was becoming obsolete and infantry lacked critical weapons.

Gen V.K. Singh had Monday also disclosed that he was offered a kickback of Rs.14 crore by a retired defence officer.
