New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) Tihar jail chief B.K. Gupta, tipped to become the next police commissioner of Delhi, met Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday, a government source said.

Gupta, 58, a 1975 batch Indian Police Service official, is currently serving as director-general (prisons).

According to the government source, Gupta met Dikshit in the evening and is understood to have discussed matters related to Tihar jail.

Prisons in Delhi are controlled by the state government. Delhi Police, which takes care of law and order in the capital, is controlled by the central home ministry.

The source said it may be a courtesy call for Gupta before joining the new assignment.

He may take over charge from current police chief Y.S. Dadwal after the high profile visit of US President Barack Obama Nov 7-9.
