New Delhi, Dec 11 (Inditop.com) The Delhi High Court Friday extended protection to a 19-year-old girl and her 47-year-old husband, who had got married against the wishes of their families, but asked them to approach the appropriate court for further relief.
Justice Kailash Gambhir extended protection to the couple by a week and asked them to approach the appropriate court that lies within their jurisdiction.
Earlier in the day, the court had directed the couple and their families to the mediation centre but there was no concrete result.
The teen had filed a petition in the court seeking protection from her family. She stated that she had married her much older husband of her “own free will and without any influence and coercion”
“But I fear that my husband could be eliminated by my family members,” she said.
Her husband was a teacher in a Madhya Pradesh college but has now resigned, she said. The couple now live in Delhi.
According to the prosecution, he was married with children and therefore his second wedding was null.
