Ahmedabad, Aug 4 (IANS) A special court Wednesday rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) plea for a 10-day custody of former Gujarat minister of state for home Amit Shah in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh killing.
Special CBI Court Judge A.Y. Dave accepted the contention of Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Shah, that after a chargesheet is filed an accused can be kept only in judicial custody and not in the custody of an investigating agency.
The defence lawyer said that the CBI was seeking Shah’s custody despite failing to fully utilize the three days’ time granted by the court for questioning Shah in jail.
Shah’s bail plea is slated to come up in court Aug 11.
On Aug 10, the court will take an application filed by former deputy superintendent of police N.K. Amin to turn approver in the case. Eight co-accused policemen have filed an objection to Amin’s plea.
