Kolkata, Jan 3 (Inditop.com) A CPI-M activist was killed by suspected Maoists in strife-torn West Midnapore district of West Bengal, a police official said Sunday.

“Jhontu Patra was called by a group of unidentified miscreants last (Saturday) night and later killed. His body was found this morning near Bamal in the Lalgarh belt,” he said.

The officials said that the CPI-M activist was killed by the leftwing ultras as they suspected him of being a police informer.

On Saturday, at least two suspected Maoists were killed and one injured in a gun battle with the police in Lalgarh.

Maoist rebels are active in three western districts of the state – Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore.
