Guwahati, May 1 (IANS) The curfew imposed in parts of Golapara district in Assam after police firing two days ago was lifted Wednesday for seven hours.
Goalpara Deputy Commissioner Preetam Saikia said there was improvement in the situation because of which the administration decided to lift the curfew from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Assam government had ordered a magisterial probe into the police firing that left two people dead. Two others died in circumstances still not clear.
The violence took place in Rakshyasini in western Assam. The clashes occurred after the recovery Monday of the body of Taher Ali, who had been missing since the previous day.
The district administration has provided ex-gratia amount of Rs.20,000 to the next of kin of all the deceased.
