New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) The arrests in the brutal Dec 16, 2012 gang rape case here has started a new chapter of systematic evidence gathering, a police officer said Tuesday, adding that the woman’s family were satisfied with the judgment.
“This case has started a new chapter of systematic evidence gathering. A case can take less or more time but this is a new chapter of professionalism by police, scientific agencies and hospitals,” said Vivek Gogia, joint commissioner of police.
Gogia said that police led evidence in four steps.
“First is physical identification in the court, second is identification before the magistrate, third is identification through technical data and fourth identification through scientific data,” said the officer.
Replying to a question if the scientific techniques of investigation used in this case will now be used in the investigation of all such cases, Gogia said, “If such evidence is available, like bite marks, we always try and do that. It depends on the availability of evidence.”
The officer said that while pronouncing the judgment the court praised the way police investigated the case and presented evidence.
Gogia said that he had spoken to the victim’s family members who expressed satisfaction.
The officer credited the home ministry for helping bring evidence from a Singapore hospital where the victim was taken for treatment.
