New Delhi, April 22 (Inditop.com) From taking a pledge to save water to taking part in a fun-filled event of creating something out of waste, the Indian capital Thursday celebrated Earth Day with great fervour.
Keeping in tune with the green games the upcoming Commonwealth Games promises to be, the Organising Committee put together a ‘Waste to Craft’ competition for children at its headquarters in Connaught Place.
“The aim of the competition is to educate youngsters on treating waste as a resource. By encouraging students to create something out of waste, the key learning is – it’s not waste unless wasted,” an official said.
Students from various schools participated in the competition.
Similarly, to spread awareness on climate change and encourage children to give their ideas on energy and water conservation and waste disposal, an online platform (www.greenspaces.in/idea) was launched.
Put together by The Climate Project India (TCPI), an NGO, besides the web portal, an awareness programme for school children was also launched with the same motive.
Further, a pledge campaign ‘Save Water, Save Life’ was organised by the Rotary club in which the signatures of 100,000 school students were taken. The pledge will be submitted to President Pratibha Patil.
