New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) Delhi would get 450 more women constables within two months, police chief B.K. Gupta said Saturday.
‘Around 450 women police personnel will join the force in September. We will post them at visible spots of the city like Connaught Place,’ Gupta told reporters at Delhi Police’s half-yearly press briefing here.
‘Till now women were into desk jobs at police stations but now we are encouraging them to go out and manage traffic and patrol the city,’ he added.
According to Gupta, the police are also focusing on the safety of senior citizens living alone in the city. Police have registered a total of 11,774 senior citizens with 3,027 added this year to keep a strict vigilance on their protection.
‘About 100 senior citizens are contacted on telephone daily by the Senior Citizen Security Cell. At least 25 of them are visited daily by a police team, including regular visits by the area station house officer or the assistant commissioner,’ Gupta said.
The police distributes pamphlets and holds regular meetings with the resident welfare associations focusing on issues of concern of the senior citizens, he added.
On measures to curb human trafficking, the police chief said Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) had been created in all districts.
Unlike earlier it is now mandatory to register first information reports (FIRs) in all cases of missing children up to 16 years.
‘All cases involving children below eight years will be investigated by AHTUs,’ he added.
