New Delhi, May 21 (IANS) To supplement classroom teaching and make learning more fun, the Delhi University launched an e-learning portal Friday in which study material of 12 courses was uploaded.
Developed by the university’s Institute of Lifelong Learning (ILLL), the portal has e-lessons, e-quizzes, virtual labs and e-lectures — all as per the syllabi of the courses — as well as animations and other visuals.
University’s vice-chancellor Deepak Pental said: ‘This initiative will not just help students but also teachers since the basics of a subject can be understood through the e-learning material in the portal whereas the classroom lectures can focus on more in-depth study.’
The e-learning material of physics, chemistry, life sciences, history, commerce, mathematics, political science, education, computer science, Sanskrit, Hindi and English have been uploaded in the portal.
A.K. Bakshi, director of ILLL, said: ‘We have uploaded 100 lessons till now. As we go ahead, we will keep adding more material and pre-recorded lectures. We have also uploaded 15,000 multiple choice questions and plan to add 2,000 more each month’.
‘But instead of just giving the right answers to the multiple choice questions, the system has been made such that there will also be an explaination as to why this was the right answer so that there is a thorough understanding of the subject,’ he said.
The portal will be accessible in two languages – English and Hindi – so that it is understood by all.
‘We may also get renowned lecturers and authors to speak for us, record it and upload in the portal later. At the moment the portal will be accessible to just DU students within the varsity, but over some time it will be partially accessible to outsiders as well,’ Bakshi said.
