New Delhi, Sep 25 (Inditop.com) Delhi High Court Friday asked the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to send two water tankers daily to a locality in the eastern part of the national capital that has not got any supply for almost three months.

The court was hearing a public interest petition filed by Surendra Sharma, a resident of Mohalla Ganga Ram in Shahdara. He pleaded before the court that there has been no water supply in his area for the last 87 days.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice Manmohan directed DJB to provide water tankers on a daily basis to the residents till a permanent solution can be found to the problem.

The chief engineer of DJB in his report said that the locality’s water woes will take time to end as reservoirs may have to be built to ensure proper supply.

The court accepted the plan of DJB and directed it to construct five reservoirs and file a compliance report by Oct 28, the next date of hearing.

The petitioner said: “We have written letters to DJB authorities for the restoration of water supply but they turned a blind eye and paid no heed to our problem.”

Sharma had also demanded compensation of Rs.200,000 from the DJB for the inconvenience caused to the residents of the area and sought directions from the court to quash the water bills.
