Idukki (Kerala), July 4 (IANS) Communist Party of India-Marxist former district secretary M.M. Mani, who on two occasions failed to appear before a police probe team, Wednesday turned up and was questioned for five hours, according to police.
The former Idukki district CPI-M secretary was booked last month for a speech he made May 25 at a public meeting here, in which he said his party “liquidated” its political rivals and cited four instances of party opponents killed in the 1980s.
Mani was asked to come before the probe team Monday. As he failed to appear, the police were on the lookout for him. But Wednesday around 9.55 a.m., he arrived along with two CPI-M legislators from Idukki district at the police station.
“The police behaved with me in the proper manner and were very friendly throughout the long session. After it was over, I was asked to go and I have informed them that I will come back anytime the police want me to come,” said Mani.
Inspector General of Police K. Padmakumar later told reporters the questioning went on for five hours.
“We did get a lot of information on the cases since 1983 onwards and the entire questioning was videographed. Now, we will have to verify his statements with others and maybe next week, he will be asked to come again,” said Padmakumar to reporters waiting outside the Thodupuzha police station.
