Jaipur, May 6 (IANS) An ex-Indian Navy officer who has been fasting here for the last eight days demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder of his father was “forcibly” taken to a hospital by police Sunday, his family said.
Yashwant Sharma, 52, who took voluntarily retirement as a commander in 2007 after 23 years of service, sat on an indefinite fast April 29.
A team of policemen took Sharma to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital Sunday evening against his wish, his family told IANS. They alleged that police were trying to force him to end the fast.
“We have taken him to the hospital for a medical check up. If needed, doctors will administer him drips,” a police official said.
Sharma said: “My 77-year-old father, Anandswaroop Sharma, had gone missing from our house in Jawarhar Nagar locality January 21. His body with his throat slit was found a week later in an abandoned house in Pratap Nagar, almost 15 kilometres away.”
He alleged his father was murdered at the behest of the property mafia. “The police arrested two men who had a property dispute with my father. However, some other influential people involved in the killing are being shielded by police,” he said.
Sharma also questioned the police investigation into the case. “The forensic report, the call detail records and other evidence have been ignored by police,” he alleged.
Earlier, Sharma had met Rajashan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who ordered a probe by the state police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID). But, he said, this agency, too, was not taking the case seriously and demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
