New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) The civil aviation ministry Monday said that air services will continue to Srinagar during the 12 days the airport would remain closed for maintenance and flights would be diverted to Avantipura during the time.

‘It has been decided that flights to the Kashmir valley will continue uninterrupted during the period the Srinagar airport would remain closed for maintenance for 12 days,’ the ministry said in a statement.

Flights will continue to operate to Srinagar up to Sep 2 after which the flights would be diverted to Avantipura.

‘All necessary arrangements are being made on an urgent basis to ensure flights to Avantipura airport during the closure of Srinagar airport,’ statement added.

According to the ministry, airlines have agreed to immediately open their bookings.

Avantipura airport is situated at a distance of 26 km from Srinagar city and is one of 14 airbases under the control of the Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force.
