Dharamsala, June 28 (IANS) In a crackdown on rave parties in this Himachal Pradesh town, police have detained 17 people, mostly foreigners, an official said Monday.

‘We have detained 17 people, including 13 foreigners, for participating in a rave party in the Rait forests near Kangra town late Saturday night,’ Superintendent of Police Atul Fulzele told IANS Monday.

He said the foreigners were from Israel and Britain.

‘Four Indians who organised the party have also been arrested. Some narcotics were also seized from their possession,’ he said.

However, he refused to disclose names of the foreigners involved in the offence. He said some of the foreigners did not have travel documents. They have been asked to produce documents or else a case would be registered against them.

‘The detained people would be produced in a local court late this (Monday) evening,’ another police official said.

According to police, the detained people were enjoying a full moon party when police raided the party place at around 2 a.m.

Despite police strictness, such parties are common in Dharamsala. Every year it attracts thousands of backpackers from abroad.

Police say most of the crimes against foreigners in this region are related to consumption and trade of narcotics.
