Kolkata, March 13 (IANS) Four alleged smugglers have been arrested here and over 40 kg gold worth over Rs.12 crore seized from them, an official said Thursday.
Officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) nabbed all the four accused Wednesday night and seized 353 gold bars, weighing nearly 41 kg, from them.
Earlier in the month, DRI officials had arrested two people and seized 45 kg of gold worth in excess of Rs. 12 crore.
Besides the DRI, the customs department and the Border Security Force (BSF) have been making regular seizure of gold suspected to be smuggled in from Bangladesh.
The BSF so far this year has seized gold worth Rs. 4.18 crore and apprehended seven smugglers.
