Lucknow, Sep 30 (IANS) Four policemen were Friday suspended in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district for dumping the body of a youth in a river without making any efforts to ascertain his identity, an official said.

The four policemen, including an inspector and a sub-inspector besides two constables, had dumped the body of the youth recovered Thursday from near the railway tracks in Biswan neighbourhood.

‘The insensitive nature of the policemen was brought to my knowledge by local social activists. On the basis of a preliminary probe, all the four policemen were placed under suspension,’ Superintendent of Police Piyush Mordiya told reporters in Sitapur, some 80 km from Lucknow.

‘A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against all the four cops,’ he added.

According to officials, policemen are supposed to get the post-mortem conducted of every unclaimed body. All unclaimed bodies are kept at least for three days to establish the identity of the dead.
