Panaji, Dec 5 (IANS) Ahead of the tourist season, the Goa government Monday claimed that it had received a specific terror threat input and asked people to remain alert, especially in the coastal regions frequented by tourists and travellers.
In a statement here, a government spokesperson said prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, banning gathering of five or more people, will be enforced in north Goa, home to popular beaches and tourist sites, right through December and January.
The order was issued ‘due to the prevailing situation in the country and intelligence inputs regarding terrorist threats to western coast of India, anti-social elements with an intention of committing crime in Goa’.
Goa’s tourist season sees nearly 2.5 million tourists hit the state’s beaches, nearly half a million of whom are foreigners. Ever since 26/11, security agencies here have claimed that Goa has been on the terror radar.
