New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi Sunday said a proper inquiry will be held to fix accountability for the derailment of the Guwahati-Bangalore Express in West Bengal’s Malda district and harsh steps will be taken against those found guilty.
‘A proper inquiry will be held in the incident and whoever is found guilty will be punished. Harsh steps will be taken and no considerations of seniority or juniority will be considered,’ said Trivedi while addressing a media meet here.
One person died when the engine and six bogies of the Bangalore-bound Guwahati-Bangalore Express got derailed near and were hit by a passenger train coming from the opposite direction in Malda district Sunday evening, administrative and railways officials said.
Four coaches of the Azimganj-Malda Town passenger train were also derailed in the collision near Jamirghata station in Eastern Railway’s Malda Division, said an Eastern Railways spokesman.
‘This is not going to be tolerated. Accountability has to be fixed not only for this accident but also for the Kanpur accident. I can tell the people of this country that accountability, responsibility will be fixed harsh action will be taken so that such kinds of things do not occur,’ said Trivedi.
‘I want hundred percent accidents proof so that accidents do not occur. I am going to do all that is possible to prevent such incidents,’ he said.
‘Only 18-20 people are mildly injured. We will provide all kind of treatment to the injured,’ claimed Trivedi.
However a press statement by Eastern Railway stated that one person had died while 18 others were injured.
Asked whether he would make a statement on the accident in the monsoon session of Parliament starting Monday, Trivedi said the inquiry report would be laid before the House.
‘The members can ask questions, bring calling attention motions. I am ready to reply,’ he said.
